Preferring the simplicity of country living, the family living here wanted a modern villa that opens to the outside both in the front and the back. Panoramic windows assemble green views as the volume floats above the undulating landscape. A seamless connection is thus formed between the outdoors and the carefully designed indoors, defining what elegance in design means.
Inside, knotty cedar slats surround the linked kitchen and dining room, wrapping up the side walls and the ceiling above to create a sense of warmth and grandeur. The linked first-floor kitchen and dining room are double-height spaces, which produce a dramatic effect when entering the house.
Exterior of the house is coated in glass, allowing light and fresh air inside. “Shutters clad with sawn timber battens adds a balance of texture to the rendered and glass façades. Black stone floors used throughout living spaces with carbonised oak flooring and timber detail to compliment the stone. Simple and elegant bathrooms that combine matt white with additional use of the black stone.” The striking simple design as well as the serenity encompassing the house played a key elements in completing this wonderful, uncluttered home.
The modern addition consists of two rectangular concrete volumes stacked behind the original home. The upper level cantilevers over the bottom floor, creating a partially covered outdoor area. The main floor features open-plan living areas.
